A Prayer for Refreshing/Renewal

Overview:

In 2 Kings 18, Elijah prays that God would refresh the land after a long drought. In the same way, God wants to refresh us and our communities. We can pray that God would renew our devotion to Him and our sense of delight in knowing Him.

Prayer Prompt for the Week:

Do you feel weary or worn out? Pray that God would give you rest, strength, and refreshing.

Prayer:

“Lord, I come before You with a broken and contrite heart. I confess my sins to You and ask for Your forgiveness. Wash me clean from all unrighteousness. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Don’t cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. I trust in Your mercy, knowing that You are faithful to forgive. I surrender my life to You and ask You to make me whole again.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Questions for Reflection:

  • What about your life is exhausting you? What would it look like for you to “cast your burdens” onto Him instead of trusting yourself and your own strength?
  • Are there any areas of your life that have lost their “spark” – your passion about work, your desire to serve God, your relationships, etc? Ask God to renew a sense of passion and purpose in you.

Tips for Using This Prayer:

  • Ask Others to Pray For You: When we feel weary about a situation, we often need someone else to pray for us. If you pray as a family or in a group, share your burdens with them and allow them to pray for you. If you are praying alone, consider texting or calling a trusted spiritual friend and sharing what is burdening you.
  • Pray for Others’ Refreshment: Even when we feel weary, we can often find the faith to pray for others. Think about the people in your life who are worn out, and pray that God will refresh them.
  • Don’t Give Up: When we are weary, it can be tempting to give up on prayer. But Isaiah 40:31 and Matthew 11:28-30 teach us to continue coming to God when we are weary so that He can give us strength. God is not tired of hearing your burdens.
  • Silence and Sabbath: When we are weary, it is good to rest in God’s presence. Take some time this week to do something restful while you enjoy God’s presence, such as visiting a park, taking a walk on the beach, or enjoying a cup of coffee while you pray. Ask God to send His comfort and His rest.

Final Encouragement:

Remember, growth is a process that happens by God’s grace and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Being a Christian doesn’t mean we don’t make mistakes—it means that when we make mistakes, we turn to Him for forgiveness and for the strength to change.
