Trusting God in Times of Trouble

Theme: When we face overwhelming challenges, Jehoshaphat’s prayer (2 Chronicles 20:1-19) teaches us to seek God’s guidance, remember His power, and trust in His deliverance.

Prayer Prompt: As we pray this week, we draw inspiration from the prayer of King Jehoshaphat. In 2 Chronicles 20:1-19, Jehoshaphat called out to God when faced with a vast army against him. He called out to God for help, recognized His greatness, asked for divine guidance, and trusted in God’s ability to save. What great challenges are you facing in health, finances, faith, relationships, career, or any other area of life? Let’s take a minute to call out to God for help and to trust in His ability to protect and save us.

Prayer: “Lord, we come before You, recognizing Your greatness and power. We know that nothing is too difficult for You. In times of trouble, we call out to You, asking for Your help, Your wisdom, and Your protection. We acknowledge our weakness, but we place our trust in Your ability to deliver us. Show us the way, and let Your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Tips for Using This Prayer:

  • Individual Prayer: Spend 10-15 minutes each day this week praying about a difficult situation you may be facing. Let Jehoshaphat’s prayer be a guide to express your trust in God. Whenever you feel yourself getting anxious, allow your heart to rest in God’s sovereignty.
  • Group Prayer: Gather with friends or family for a short time of prayer in the car or while gathered around the dinner table and use the above prayer as a starting place. Have one person lead the prayer, while others join in after. Encourage each other by sharing testimonies of how God has delivered or guided you in the past.
  • Daily Reflection: Throughout the week, take a moment each day to reflect on the questions below. Write your answers down, and revisit them at the end of the week to see how your heart has shifted as you pray and trust in God’s promises.

Reflection Questions:

      1. How do I respond to challenges in my life? Do I tend to rely on my own strength or turn to God first for guidance and deliverance?
      2. What aspects of God’s character (as described in Jehoshaphat’s prayer) can I hold onto when facing difficulties? How can these qualities strengthen my faith in God’s provision and power?

Additional Encouragement:

God’s answers may not always come in the way we expect, but He is always faithful to show up.
